Pottery Stamp Replica Project

This has come a long ways since I started. Overall, my goal has been to examine extant pottery fragments and use the available research on historical tools and methods to produce plausible reconstructions of the dies used to decorate stamped pottery in the first millennium CE. To date, there are two phases: one is based on northern/central European pottery from the Late Roman Iron Age through the Vendel/Merovingian Period. The second is focused more tightly in Late Antiquity, specifically the pottery produced in the Roman province of Pannonia in the 1st and 2nd c. CE.
